More than 1,000 persons gathered at the City Forest Park for Yoga at the International Yoga Day programme organised by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, chief secretary Anand Bardhan said that Yoga is a priceless heritage of India’s Sanatan culture which shows the way to a healthy life to the whole world. Considering the rising stress and busy lives in the present times, Yoga provides mental peace and positive energy. It is not only a means to individual health but a campaign to make the society and nation healthy. He said, “International Yoga Day is not just an event but a celebration of India culture and philosophy. Yoga is our ancient tradition and priceless heritage which establishes balance among the body, mind and soul. It has special significance in Uttarakhand because the culture, nature and spiritual traditions here strengthen the basic philosophy of Yoga. I request all the people of the State to make Yoga a part of their daily lives,” Bardhan said.

MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that Uttarakhand has been the land of Yoga and spiritual practices for centuries. The State government is working consistently to develop the State into a global capital of Yoga, Ayurveda, wellness and naturopathy. With the Char Dham, Himalaya and natural wealth, Uttarakhand can become a centre of attraction for Yoga practitioners from across the world, he said. “We at the MDDA are attempting to connect all public places to health and public welfare to provide a better environment to the people. By adopting Yoga in our daily lives, we can make an important contribution towards building a healthy and addiction-free society,” Tiwari said.
