PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) sealed three multi-storey buildings and demolished illegal plotting at two locations during a special enforcement drive in Rishikesh on Tuesday. The action was taken in Ganganagar and Ambagh after officials found that the construction and plotting were being done without the required approvals.

In the drive began near Parshuram Chowk in Ganganagar, a multi-storey building under construction without an approved building plan was sealed. Later, the MDDA team demolished illegal plotting spread over around five bighas of land at two places in Ambagh. Two more multi-storey buildings under construction without permission in the Gayatri Villa area and street number 2 of Aambagh were also sealed.

MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that the authority had received several complaints about illegal construction and plotting in the Rishikesh area. After inspection, the complaints were found to be correct, following which action was taken. He said unauthorised colonies create problems for planned urban development and put pressure on basic facilities such as roads, water supply and sewerage. The authority is following a zero-tolerance policy against illegal construction and unauthorised plotting. Strict action will continue against those who violate the rules, Tiwari said. MDDA secretary Mohan Singh Barniya also appealed to people to obtain all necessary approvals before starting any construction or land development work.
