PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The recent incident of alleged theft in the OPD building of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital, where miscreants also damaged a washbasin, has raised concerns about security within the hospital premises.
According to reports, unidentified individuals recently entered the first floor of the OPD building and targeted the washroom located opposite the ENT department. They broke the lock and vandalized the area. The theft was discovered on Thursday morning when hospital staff found the washroom lock broken and a damaged washbasin. It is learnt that after the incident was reported, when hospital officials asked for CCTV footage to be extracted, the staff concerned could not even open the computer. They said they had forgotten the password.
In response, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr R S Bisht acknowledged that the incident is a significant concern. To address it, he stated that they plan to increase the security staff at the hospital. Currently, about 100 security guards are assigned to GDMC Hospital, but they are looking to appoint about 40 more guards. The proposal for this expansion is currently in process and will soon be submitted to the principal of GDMC Hospital, Dr Geeta Jain.
Further, regarding the availability of CCTV cameras, Dr Bisht said that a proposal to increase the number of cameras has already been submitted.
