UTC directs monsoon safety inspection of all buses

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has instructed all divisional managers (Technical) of Dehradun, Nainital and Tanakpur, and depot assistant general managers to conduct a phased inspection of all buses to ensure passenger safety and comfort during the monsoon season.
The order issued by UTC general manager (Operation) Kranti Singh states that with the onset of rain it is essential to take corrective action regarding the roofs, windows, glasses and doors of all buses (UTC and contracted) operating on the routes.
He instructed officials to ensure that all buses belonging to the division and depot are inspected in a phased manner. Additionally, any work related to identified AC buses with deficiencies should be prioritised. These deficiencies include water dripping from the roof into the bus, windows and doors that are not in good condition, improperly fitting glass on windows and doors, or missing glass entirely, as well as poor overall physical and technical condition of the buses.
Singh further directed that if any deficiencies are found in the contracted buses operated from the division or depot, the owner of the contracted bus must be directed to make necessary corrections. This is to ensure that passengers travelling in such buses do not face any inconvenience and that the corporation does not incur any financial losses or receive complaints related to these issues.
Further, the duty of four officers/deputy officers has been assigned in shifts at the State Emergency Operation Center at 36, IT Park in Dehradun. In the event of an emergency, if any employee, division, depot, or bus staff encounters difficulties, they can immediately contact the officer/sub-officer’s mobile number. This will facilitate timely administrative assistance for stranded buses, passengers and staff during emergencies. He also stated that, in compliance with these instructions, officials concerned are directed to ensure that their reports are submitted to the corporation headquarters. The report should clearly indicate how many corporation and contracted buses were inspected, how many were found to have deficiencies, among others.
