The family of the deceased youth whose body was found in the Mussoorie area on July 14 has alleged that he was murdered and has filed a complaint at Nehru Colony police station. Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR on Saturday against two people, including the man’s alleged girlfriend, and started an investigation.

According to the police, the deceased’s sister said her brother, Sumit Pal, had been missing since July 8. After several days of searching, his body was found in a forest near Nag Temple on Hathipaon Road in Mussoorie on July 14. The family claimed that Sumit was in a relationship with a woman from Chamoli and suspects that he was murdered. They have asked the police to conduct a fair and impartial investigation and take legal action against the accused.

Police had earlier inspected the spot and collected evidence after the body was recovered. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family. Officials said the body was found in a decomposed condition and had been partially damaged by wild animals. On July 15, the family also staged a protest outside Nehru Colony police station, demanding a murder investigation.

Nehru Colony SHO Manoj Nautiyal said an FIR has been registered against two people, including the woman, based on the complaint filed by the deceased’s sister. He said further action will be taken according to the findings of the investigation. The allegations have been made by the family and will be verified during the police probe, he said.
