Perturbed by the less than the expected pace of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State, the chief electoral officer (CEO) BVRC Purushottam has directed all the district magistrates to focus entirely on the process of hearing notices for the next three weeks. The CEO gave the order to the DMs during a video conferencing session with them on Saturday.
The process of distribution of the notices and hearing is currently underway in the State during the second phase of the SIR.
On a stern note, the CEO said that the DMs, the ADMs and the SDMs should prepare a roster of field visits to remain among the public and should be in their offices only when they have to hold meetings with representatives of the political parties.
He said that if a voter, for any reason, cannot attend a notice hearing, then he/she should be given adequate time for a second hearing. Special care should be taken to ensure that voters do not face any inconvenience, the CEO added.
He also directed all DMs to hold biweekly meetings with political parties to gather their feedback on the process of SIR. He said that the officers should not confine themselves to the recognised political parties in taking suggestions. In the meeting the CEO also directed senior officials from his office to conduct district-wise field visits to gather feedback on SIR.
The additional chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande directed the electoral registration officers (ERO) to maintain constant coordination with assistant electoral registration officers (AERO) and booth level officers (BLO). He added that booths having more than 100 notices require special attention. In the meeting, joint chief electoral officer Prakash Chandra Dumka directed all EROs to continue conducting training sessions of their BLO supervisors and BLOs at the cluster level.
Deputy chief electoral officer Kishan Singh Negi, assistant chief electoral officer Mastu Das and DMs and EROs of all the districts were present in the meeting.
