The Election Commission of India has so far delivered about 19 lakh notices to the voters under the ongoing process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State. The commission has issued notices to more than 24 lakh voters which means it has delivered 77 per cent of the total notices. This information was provided by the chief electoral officer, Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam to the representatives of recognized national political parties on Wednesday. In the meeting, discussions on the SIR were held in detail and the CEO received feedback from the political parties. The representatives of the political parties were also informed through a detailed presentation about the ongoing hearings in the SIR notice phase.
In the meeting the representatives of the political parties submitted some objections on deletion of names of the people from the voter list.
The CEO said that complete care is being taken to ensure that no citizen faces any problem during SIR. He said that about 19 lakh notices have been delivered to the voters through BLOs. The CEO added that more than 93,000 applications under Form VI have been received so far. Similarly 1.39 lakh applications through Form VII and more than 40,000 Form VIII have been received.
The CEO informed that the action on the Form VII is being taken as per the rules after verification at ERO/AERO level.
Purushottam said that a voter can submit a maximum of five claims and objections during the claims and objections process. “If additional cases arise in any area, the ERO will conduct due diligence and verification at their own level, as per the established regulations,’’ he said.
The CEO said that booth-level agents (BLA) of political parties can submit a maximum of 10 forms per day. The ERO will verify at his level if 30 forms are submitted during the revision period.
He said that all districts have been instructed that the BLOs can resolve general anomaly notices on their own. Rajkumar Purohit from Bharatiya Janata Party, Suryakant Dhasmana and Amendra Bisht from Congress, Satendra Chopra and Jaspal from BSP and Anant Akash from CPI (M) were present in the meeting.
Election officers to visit homes of the elderly and Divyangs voters for hearing on notices
DEHRADUN: The CEO BVRC Purushottam has directed the district election officers of all the districts to go to the homes of elderly ( above 65 years) and Divyang voters for hearing the notices issued to them under the ongoing process of SIR in the State.
He gave the order during a video conferencing session with the divisional commissioners and district magistrates on Wednesday. The CEO said special care should be taken to ensure that the elderly and Divyang voters do not have to come to the polling booth unnecessarily.
In the meeting, the CEO directed the DEOs of all districts to examine and timely dispose of the applications received so far under Form VI, VII and VIII as per the rules.
He directed the Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat and Garhwal commissioner Anand Swarup to personally visit booths in the areas under their jurisdiction.
