Authorities demolish 47 encroachments in Premnagar
Resuming the anti-encroachment drive, the Dehradun district administration demolished about 47 encroachments from government land in Premnagar area. On Wednesday, a team of district administration along with police arrived at a slum near Nanda Ki Chowki area in Premnagar and demolished 47 illegal structures. As informed by sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Vikasnagar, Saurabh Aswal, there are around 100 encroachments in the area which are standing on the government land. The administration demolished 47 encroachments on Wednesday and the remaining will probably be demolished after Diwali, stated Aswal. He clarified that it was not a sudden move as the administration had already issued notices to locals living there giving them plenty of time to move or remove their own encroachments. However when the locals did not remove the illegal structures on their own, the administration had to demolish them, said the SDM.
Moreover, the officials informed that most of the families living in this area have houses facilitated under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Jhajhra. Still, most of them have rented their houses in Jhajhra to others while others have tenants in their houses in the slum area, stated officials. They further added that the administration will issue notices to the families occupying the remaining illegal structures too and if the encroachments are not removed by them in due time, the district administration team will demolish them as well after November 14.
