Dobra Chanti Bridge; Credit taking politics starts

Days ahead of formal inauguration, Cong holds felicitation of Harish Rawat for being instrumental in its construction

Credit taking politics has started ahead of the formal inauguration of the important Dobra Chanti Bridge in Tehri district. In order to stake its claim for construction of the bridge over the Tehri Lake, the Uttarakhand unit of Congress party organised a felicitation ceremony of former chief minister Harish Rawat near the bridge on Wednesday. The programme was attended by top leaders of the party and was organised by former MLA of Pratapnagar Vikram Singh Negi.

Addressing the programme organised at the Bhomeshwar Mahadev Temple, former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat said that it was the Congress government that made special efforts for the construction of the bridge. He said that the bridge would provide relief to the people of Pratapnagar who were forced to suffer for a long period in absence of the bridge. Rawat said that Pratap Nagar would now move ahead on the path of development and it would find a place in the international tourism map.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh said that the bridge was approved by the Congress government headed by late Narayan Dutt Tiwari and when the BJP came to power in the year 2007 work on the bridge was stopped. He claimed that the work on the bridge was restarted under the Harish Rawat government. The PCC president said that the BJP is now trying to seek credit for the bridge but the fact remains that it does not deserve it. He said that it is unfortunate that in the name of inauguration, the people were deprived of its benefits for months. The former MLA of Pratap Nagar, Vikram Singh Negi said that during the regime of Harish Rawat international tenders for the Dobra- Chanti bridge were floated after which the Yosin company of South Korea prepared its design and the bridge is now ready. He said that the programme was organised to honour Harish Rawat who was instrumental for construction of the bridge.

Former PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya, former minister Vijay Pal Sajwan and many leaders of Congress party attended the programme.
