CM, Ramdev condemn Goswami’s arrest
The arrest of senior journalist Arnab Goswami by the Mumbai police has elicited criticism from chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Yoga guru Swami Ramdev among others in Uttarakhand. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also staged protests at various locations on the issue.
The CM tweeted that Goswami’s arrest was an assault on the freedom of expression and Press. Such actions which remind one of the emergency are part of the Congress culture. “I condemn such stifling of the voice of those doing journalism honestly in a democracy,” stated the CM.
Meanwhile, Ramdev termed the manner in which Goswami was arrested and mistreated as completely undemocratic and inhuman. Stating that this assault on the freedom of Press cannot be justified in any manner, he appealed to the Maharashtra government to take cognisance to prevent any type of injustice.
