CM Rawat meets disaster affected villagers

3nd learnt about their problems on Tuesday morning. The CM assured the villagers of all possible assistance. He also directed the Chamoli district magistrate to ensure that there is no shortage of essential commodities in the villages that have lost road connection. The road link to about one dozen villages in Joshimath block was severed following the disaster in the Tapovan area of Chamoli district on Sunday.

Before visiting the affected villages, the CM checked the condition of those injured in the disaster at the ITBP hospital in Joshimath. It will be recalled that Rawat had reached Tapovan area late on Monday afternoon. He had inspected the relief and rescue works while also encouraging the personnel of various forces involved in the efforts. On the same day, he held a meeting with officials and reviewed the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the rescue operation continued throughout the third day on Tuesday. The Chamoli district administration is supplying ration, medicines and other essential items by helicopter in the 13 villages which have lost road links due to the disaster. Electricity supply has been restored in 11 of the 13 villages which had lost it. Similarly, water supply has been restored in eight out of 11 villages where the supply was disrupted. Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), army, police and others are involved in the rescue and relief efforts.
