No laxity to be tolerated in smart city works- CM

Monday, 12 April 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that carelessness will not be tolerated in execution of works under the Dehradun smarty city project. The CM said this after inspecting the ongoing works under the project at the Parade Ground and Paltan Bazaar on Sunday. While inspecting the works in the Paltan Bazaar, the CM directed the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) CEO and Dehradun district magistrate that works being undertaken by the construction agencies should be expedited. It should also be ensured that the construction works do not cause any inconvenience to the businessmen and general public. All construction related works should be carried out in the night. To resolve the problem of dust, water should be sprinkled at the site.

At Paltan Bazaar, the CM directed officials that along with the construction works, the sewerage and undergounding of wires should be carried out simultaneously. Work should be carried out in the Paltan Bazaar with an aim to complete all of it by April 30, he said. Rawat stressed that there will be no compromise with the quality of work. Works related to electricity, sewerage, road construction and other aspects should be undertaken simultaneously, he said.

Earlier, while inspecting the works at Parade Ground the CM directed officials that all works under the smart city project should be completed within a set time frame. The completion of works should be ensured in a phased manner. MLA Khajan Das and officials concerned were also present during the chief minister’s inspection.

It is pertinent to mention here that though officially DSCL has been winning various awards for different aspects, people in Dehradun have been complaining for months about the protracted time being taken to execute the works and the resulting inconvenience being caused to the public. It remains to be seen whether the inspection and instructions of the CM have any effect on the execution of the project works.
