The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) of Uttarakhand will conduct a campaign against substance abuse among the children in Dehradun even amid the recent surge in Covid-19. According to the chairperson of the commission, Usha Negi, substance abuse is one of the major issues in the State and the child commission is committed to work against this issue in coordination with all the departments concerned. She said that several organisations, activists and associations have come forward and expressed their wish to join the commission in the campaign against substance abuse. Negi said, “We had already made a plan according to which we were preparing for the campaign in Dehradun. It is true that the recent surge in covid cases has slightly affected our plans of running the campaign against the substance abuse but it would not lead to its cancellation,” asserted Negi.
The SCPCR chief said that Covid-19 appears to become a part of our life and crucial works cannot be cancelled or postponed every time because of it. “We would execute our plan of running the campaign with some minor changes while following all the Covid-19 guidelines. We would mainly interact with parents as they are the ones who influence children the most,” informed Negi. She said that along with psychologists, the commission would also include youths, social activists and prominent organisations like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) that would work to raise awareness against the issue of substance abuse in society. She disclosed that the commission will soon start this campaign in Dehradun. Meanwhile, Negi also disclosed that she would soon visit children homes and orphanages across the State too for inspection while following the Covid-19 guidelines.
