The awareness among youngsters of Doon valley for maintaining cleanliness of rivers and rivulets is increasing rapidly. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a group of youngsters of Prem Nagar area of the city organised a cleanup drive in the Tons River.
The leader of the group Amogh Narayan said that about 50 kg of plastic and other waste was collected in the drive. He said that apart from polluting the water the plastic waste is taking a toll on the aesthetic beauty of the rivers. The underground water is also getting polluted and its level is lowered due to the dumping of waste, he said.
After collecting the waste the group of youngsters segregated the waste and also organised an awareness campaign about the ill effects of the plastic waste and water pollution. Sunny Kumar, Aditya, Sujal and others took part in the drive.
