The State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj said that Uttarakhand has been attracting considerable investment in the tourism sector, especially the hospitality sector. From 2016 to the present, about Rs 4582.17 crore has been invested in Uttarakhand in this sector, he said. The State government is making all possible attempts to bring investment in the tourism sector in Uttarakhand, added the minister.

Maharaj said that during his recent trip to Dubai, investors had shown considerable interest in investing in Uttarakhand. He said that there are 995 units including hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants and entertainment parks along with car parkings in the state. The nature of investment shows that the majority of it is made in large and small projects. Of the total investment, about 69 per cent has come for large and small projects. This investment is a major source of employment, he said. Small businesses also generated 51 per cent of total jobs through such investments. The Tourism minister further said that the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board has implemented the new tourism policy. All attempts are being made to make it conducive for investment. The State provides various opportunities for investment including water sports, hospitality, nature and wildlife, health and rural tourism. The minister further said that the single window system, subsidy and incentive for investment have been linked to the tourism policy. The short distance from the national capital, large tourist arrival, dedicated relationship managers for investors who guide them according to their investment life cycle make Uttarakhand among the most favoured States for investment in the tourism sector, averred the minister.
