National handloom expo starts in Doon

The national handloom expo was inaugurated at Race Course play ground by MSME minister Chandan Ram Das on Tuesday. The expo will continue till June 5. Apart from artisans from Uttarakhand, those from other states including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka along with Jammu-Kashmir and Delhi are also participating in the exposition. About 80 stalls have been set up as part of the event this year. The cabinet minister along with other invited guests and officials also visited the various stalls and viewed the products being sold on the occasion.
Among the products on sale, the Banarasi saris, mats and carpets from Uttar Pradesh, Jaipuri Chadars from Rajasthan, Tusser and Bhagalpuri dress material and saris from Bihar, Kanjivaram silk saris from Karnataka and other special products from various states are on offer in the expo. The Uttarakhand Handloom and Handicrafts Development Council (UHHDC) has also put up a Himadri stall- selling the state’s unique handloom products along with handicrafts items. Products developed in 15 development blocks of the state are up for sale in the Himadri stall.
Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Das, Industry secretary PK Pandey, Industry director general Ranveer Singh Chauhan and Industry director Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal were also among those present on the occasion.
