Develop goat valleys across State: Bahuguna

The Animal Husbandry and Fisheries minister Saurabh Bahuguna directed officials to facilitate goat valleys for commercial rearing of goats in the State. The minister issued this direction while chairing a meeting to review works of the Fisheries, Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry departments here on Tuesday. All the district magistrates and chief development officers also attended the meeting through video conferencing.

The minister said that in order to simplify production, transport and marketing of goats, special area should be identified for all the schemes being operated at present and such areas should be developed as goat valley clusters. Commercial goat rearing will generate self-employment opportunities which in turn will strengthen the rural economy.

Reviewing the works of the Dairy Development department, the minister said that establishment of milk booths should be expedited for sale of Aanchal milk and dairy products. He further directed that Aanchal dairy producers service centres should be established to provide technical investment facility to dairy producers of the dairy committees in the State. He directed all the district magistrates to identify locations in government offices and urban areas, and provide land for establishing Aanchal milk booths. He directed the officials concerned to established milk booths and cafes on Char Dham Yatra routes by September. Reviewing works of the Fisheries department he directed officials to expedite construction of Amrit Sarovar in every district. Work on the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, district plan and State plan should be executed in convergence while executing the programmes, he said. Citing major scope for employment in the fisheries sector, he said that officials should take personal interest in the scheme in every district. Secretary BVRC Purushottam and departmental officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
