The state unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest at Clock Tower in Dehradun on Wednesday against the alleged NEET paper leak and the police Lathi-charge on students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The protest was led by the party’s State president, Uma Gaur Sisodia and held in front of the statue of the legendary statehood activist, Indramani Badoni.
Addressing the gathering, Sisodia said that the NEET paper leak had ruined the future of lakhs of students and criticised the alleged use of force against the students protesting peacefully at Jantar Mantar. “The BJP-led government is attempting to gag the students’ voice instead of addressing their concerns,” she alleged.
She further said that students from Uttarakhand had also been affected by the NEET paper leak. Urging action from the Centre, she demanded resignation of the Union Education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, a high-level inquiry into the paper leak and strict punishment for those found responsible. She also demanded action against the officials involved in the Lathi-charge and a public apology to the students.
The party warned that if the students’ demands are not addressed soon, it will launch a state-wide movement. “We will not sit idle while our children are facing a bleak future due to corruption in high levels. Neither will we allow the Centre to use brute force to stifle the protesting students’ voice,” she said.
A number of State AAP leaders, along with workers, participated in the demonstration.
