Action plan of Mehak Kranti policy being prepared: Minister

The Agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi informed that an action plan is being drawn up for the expansion of the Mehak Kranti policy in the State, covering the years from 2025 to 2047 as part of the Viksit Bharat resolution. He said this following a review meeting involving the Aromatic Plant Centre. He also said that instructions have been given to officials concerned to present the draft of this ambitious scheme in an upcoming cabinet meeting. 

Joshi said that work would be carried out in the first phase over an area of 22,750 hectares which is expected to generate a turnover of approximately Rs 1,050 crore and create more than 91,000 employment opportunities in the State.

Under the policy, special valleys would be set up in various districts to promote the production of medicinal and aromatic plants. The planned valleys include Damask Rose Valley (2,000 hectares) in Chamoli and Almora, Cinnamon Valley (5,200 hectares) in Champawat and Nainital, Timur Valley (5,150 hectares) in Pithoragarh, Lemongrass Valley (2,400 hectares) in Haridwar and Pauri and the Mint Valley (8,000 hectares) in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar

Joshi stated that the Mehak Kranti policy would be a game-changer in terms of promoting aromatic farming in the State.
