The establishment of the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital would prove to be a milestone in terms of the advanced technology-powered treatment to be provided to the differently abled people, said the Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal while inaugurating the centre on Wednesday.
The programme was attended by the district magistrate Savin Bansal, chief development officer (CDO) Abhinav Shah, chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma and Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Das.
The centre has come up at the joint initiatives of the district administration and Social Welfare department. This centre is meant to help the specially abled people to avail the government schemes rolled out for their welfare. In addition to the inauguration of the centre, the officials also introduced a mobile number ( 8077386815) for specially abled individuals to contact and avail themselves of the services at the DDRC.
Rajpur MLA Khajan Das in his address said that the centre would enable the disabled people to get access to all services under one roof.
Expressing happiness over the inauguration, DM Bansal said that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that people with disabilities live safely and with dignity while accessing healthcare services easily. “The DDRC has been established to provide all types of services—from certification to artificial limbs and counselling—under one roof,” he said, adding that feedback from individuals using the centre would be considered for future up-gradation. He expressed anxiety over the fact that about 18 to 20 per cent of the people of a particular area are found to be suffering from disabilities of one kind or another. He further said that a State referral centre for disabled individuals would soon be set up on the second and third floors of the hospital building where advanced technology treatments would be offered.
The CDO, Dehradun Abhinav Shah thanked the DM and other officials for their support and assured that the centre would operate effectively.
The CMO, Dehradun shared information about the improved facilities at the Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital. He said that the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) ward, which initially had six beds, would soon be expanded to 12. He also informed that the recent establishment of a model vaccination centre has enhanced hospital services significantly.
Further, the maintenance work on the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital building will commence soon with a budget likely to be provided by the State administration.
