Administration gears up for multipurpose disability centre at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital

Following the directions of the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal, the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital administration has begun preparations for the establishment of a multipurpose disability centre within the hospital premises. This information was shared by the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) Dr Manu Jain.

Jain informed that the district magistrate recently held a meeting where the order to create the multipurpose disability centre was issued. Following this, the hospital’s administration has initiated the necessary preparations. To assess the feasibility of the centre’s location within the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital, a four-member committee has been formed by the district magistrate. Recently, this committee, which includes Jain, the chief development officer, the chief medical officer of Dehradun and the chief administration officer, carried out an inspection at Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital concerning the proposed centre.

 The committee has determined that it is practical to establish and implement the plan for the centre at the hospital, Jain said.

He further informed that four rooms have currently been identified on the first floor of the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital for this centre. These rooms will include one for rehabilitation mentally retarded individuals, a second for audiometry room, a third for physiotherapy and the last for consultations. Additionally, he informed plans to incorporate an X-ray facility at the centre for patients with disabilities. A night shelter for disabled patients travelling from other districts is also set to be established within the premises. He informed that a proposal has been prepared for approval from the relevant authorities, with a meeting scheduled to discuss this soon. Following the approval, he anticipated that the implementation and execution of the centre would begin in the month of September.

He further that a budget of Rs 80 lakh has been allocated for the establishment of this centre. He pointed out that the purpose of this centre is to provide comprehensive health services to disability patients in a single location, or under one roof, which will enhance their quality of life. This will be the first State multipurpose disability centre, he added.
