Scuffle at GDMC hospital: Faster police response to be sought

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The administration of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital is set to write to the senior superintendent of police, Ajai Singh, requesting him for an increase in the response time of the police response team in emergency situations within the hospital premises. This decision follows a recent incident where a dispute broke out between two groups at the emergency department of the GDMC hospital on Sunday night, resulting in misconduct towards the doctors on duty.

According to reports, the members of the two groups, involved in the scuffle, misbehaved with the doctors and the security personnel on duty.  By way of protest, the doctors suspended their work for a while. This has left the hospital administration worried about the safety of both doctors and patients.

The medical superintendent of GDMC Hospital Dr R S Bisht clarified that the doctors were not directly attacked. “They tried to intervene and invited trouble for themselves,” he said.

“The hospital is already equipped with comprehensive internal security, including security guards and other personnel. However, in light of this occurrence and to address similar situations in the future, we have planned to write to the SSP requesting that the response time for the police response team be improved,” he added.
