Three cadets and one master from Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, successfully completed the 10-kilometre run in the first-ever high-altitude marathon at the Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh district. The event was held on Sunday.
A communique from the RIMC said that despite sub-zero temperatures and snow-covered terrain, participants demonstrated incredible endurance and determination. Escort teacher Sanjay Kumar said, “Overcoming these new challenges was a first for our cadets. Braving the cold winds and rugged terrain wasn’t easy, but their spirits remained high throughout.”
Cadet Naveen Kumar Sharma shared his experience, stating, “This race was unforgettable. The cold winds, uneven paths, steep climbs, and sharp turns tested us at every step. However, the desire to finish and the breathtaking beauty of Adi Kailash kept us motivated.”
“Running on the sacred land of Adi Kailash provided an once-in-a-lifetime experience, celebrating both human resilience and the natural grandeur of the Himalayas. The pioneers of RIMC successfully completed the sacred darshan of Adi Kailash and Om Parwat during their stay in Gunji—truly a remarkable and unforgettable moment for the entire team,” said team leader Sanjay Kumar.
To honour the cadets, RIMC Commandant Col Rahul Agarwal congratulated them for their hard work, endurance and willpower in completing the challenging high-altitude marathon. The event saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 700 runners representing 22 States, competing at an altitude of 14,700 feet, with the race concluding at Gunji, which stands at 10,500 feet.
