The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested three inter-state drug traffickers from Banbasa area of Champawat district on Monday. During the operation, the police recovered about 800 grams of heroin, which is considered the biggest drug haul in Uttarakhand in 2025. The estimated international value of the seized heroin is around Rs 2.40 crore, according to STF sources. The accused have been identified as Surjeet Singh (19), Karnel Singh (35) and Gurmeet Singh (48).

According to the STF senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar, the accused trio is from Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. “The accused were bringing the heroin to Uttarakhand on a motorcycle with a plan to supply it further to Nepal. The police laid a trap and caught them in Banbasa. The vehicle they used was also impounded in the operation,” he added.

The STF is now questioning the three accused to find out more people likely to be involved in this inter-state drug trafficking network. “The probe and interrogation are on. All will be brought to book. None will be spared,” a senior STF officer declared.
