PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The construction of the children’s traffic park in Dehradun is nearing completion, with an expected finish date in the first week of June, according to the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Anita Chamola. This initiative is being developed under the guidance of the State’s Transport department.

The park, designed to teach school students about road safety and traffic rules in an engaging way, will be situated within the City Forest Park developed by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) near the Sahastradhara helipad. Construction on the park began in 2024 and is currently in its final stages. Chamola informed that the civil work is nearly complete and finishing touches are underway. With this progress, work on the park would be fully completed by the first week of June, after which an inauguration of the park would be held.

She further added that she has been in regular communication with the construction agency to ensure the project remains on schedule. Recently, she directed the construction agency of the Park to address any shortcomings and implement necessary changes.

The children’s traffic park will cover an area of 1.5 acres within the MDDA Park premises and will feature routes designed specifically for children. This setup will allow them to gain practical experience in road safety and traffic behavior. Additional amenities will include roundabouts, zebra crossings, pedestrian crossings and models of school buses. Officials will be present to explain these models and provide information about traffic rules, proper actions to take at fueling stations, speed limits and other road safety regulations. Moreover, Chamola highlighted that the park will also feature an auditorium with 7D films focused on road safety for students and children. She believed that this initiative will yield positive results, especially given the current high rate of underage traffic violations. She emphasised that the park will benefit not only the children but also the parents who accompany them.
