Chuphal questions role of appointees, accuses Bisht of obstructing work

BJP MLA and former cabinet minister Bishan Singh Chuphal has raised questions over the appointment of government appointees in Uttarakhand and alleged interference in his constituency work. Chuphal, the Didihat MLA from Pithoragarh, claimed that certain individuals designated as functionaries were unfit for their roles and were obstructing elected representatives instead of facilitating government schemes.

Chuphal specifically accused designated minister Hem Raj Bisht of creating hurdles in his work. He claimed that files seeking financial assistance for medical treatment of poor families had been forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office.

According to him, when he later met chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, his staff informed him that Bisht had taken those files. He alleged that this amounted to deliberate obstruction of his efforts and demanded that Bisht be removed from the post. Chuphal further stated that such appointments should be reconsidered, as they interfere in the responsibilities of elected MLAs and disrupt public work.

In response, Bisht released a video from Haridwar rejecting the allegations. He said that Chuphal was like an elder brother to him but the charges were unfounded. Bisht stated that he had been associated with the party for 28 years and had no reason to harm public welfare. He denied taking any files and swore on the Ganga and his mother that he had not engaged in such actions.

Bisht countered by alleging that Chuphal himself benefitted the most from government contracts, mining leases and crusher operations. He said that whenever any leader within the party worked effectively, Chuphal opposed them, citing past examples of his disagreements with senior leaders like Trivendra Singh Rawat, Bhagat Singh Koshyari and now CM Dhami.

The exchange between Chuphal and Bisht has brought attention to ongoing tensions within the ruling party, with multiple MLAs voicing concerns over the functioning of appointees in recent weeks.
