The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to remove 18 of its 31 hired vehicles used by officers and employees, a move expected to save the civic body up to Rs 1.5 crore annually. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey at the corporation office on Tuesday, where officials reviewed the requirement and expenditure on hired vehicles. The move aims to reduce administrative expenses and redirect resources towards public services and development works.
Pandey said that the corporation was reviewing its administrative expenditure to ensure the responsible use of public funds. He said that reducing the number of hired vehicles was part of efforts to improve financial discipline, transparency and efficiency in the civic body’s functioning.
He added that the expected savings would strengthen the corporation’s financial management and help ensure better utilisation of the available budget for sanitation, cleanliness, public amenities and other development works.
The commissioner said that the corporation would continue reviewing its expenditure and take steps to curb unnecessary spending. He emphasised that the objective was not merely to cut costs but also to ensure that available resources were used effectively for the benefit of residents.
The deputy municipal commissioner Tanvir Marwah, chief health officer Dr Anand Shukla and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
