Cong leader visits home of woman slain in leopard attack

 PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Pauri

The Pradesh Congress president Ganesh Godiyal visited the home of the woman who had been mauled to death at Koti village under Khirsu block of Pauri district.  He later slammed the State government, particularly the Forest department, for the unabated wildlife attack on villagers. He demanded the State government to disclose where the captured leopards have been released. “If they have been released in zoos, why are their number and attacks increasing?” he asked. He also expressed deep concern over the spike in cases of bear attacks in villages.

The villagers said they were spending nights in fear of fresh attacks.  They also alleged that the leopard the Forest Department claimed to have captured in Koti village had been actually captured in another area. They further alleged that the Forest department team is not properly patrolling the village and warned that if effective action was not taken soon, they would be forced to resort to agitation.
