Congress holds protest on first day of Budget session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha

The Budget session of the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha started on a stormy note with the opposition Congress holding protest both outside and inside the house. As soon as the address of the governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh started his address, the Congress members led by the leader of the opposition, Yashpal Arya voiced their opposition on short duration of the session. Shouting slogan ‘ governor go back’ the Congress members marched to the well of the house. Independent members Khanpur MLA Umesh Sharma and the Yamunotri MLA Sanjay Dobhal also joined the protesting Congress members. Amid pandemonium, the governor continued his address. Later the Congress members staged a walk out from the house.
Earlier in the day, the Congress members held a protest at the entrance of the Vidhan Sabha. Led by the leader of the opposition Yashpal Arya, the Congress members of demanded extension of the Budget session. The LoP Arya said that the decision of to table the Budget on the first day of the Vidhan Sabha is against the parliamentary traditions and the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Work Execution regulations. He said that the government should ensure that the budget session should run for at least 21 days.
Arya said that more than 40 departments are headed by chief minister but the members don’t get a chance to ask questions about the departments headed by him because the question hour is never held on Mondays ( the day reserved for questions on departments headed by CM). Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh said that the government has no respect for the constitution and the parliamentary traditions. He said that government is running away from the session because it fears getting cornered on a large number of issues.
