The Bharatiya Janata Party has opined that repeated protests by Congress leaders are a result of the party’s internal struggles. Addressing the media at the party’s State office, MLA and State spokesman Vinod Chamoli said in the case of the suicide by a farmer in Haldwani, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured an impartial and transparent investigation while action has been taken against some of those found negligent. Strict action will be taken against any person found guilty in the investigation, he said.

Referring to the late night protest by former CM and Congress leader Harish Rawat, Chamoli said that it was an attempt to grab headlines. He has been sidelined in his own party after being repeatedly rejected by the public. This is why he attempts to find a role in small and major incidents through social media, the MLA said. The BJP leader said that the Congress leaders have become active due to the coming elections. “The Congress is desperate after recommendation of a CBI probe in the Ankita Bhandari case. Their leaders are trying to create unnecessary disputes as they feel that they have lost a major issue. The police have clarified that the issue related to a cabinet minister’s husband is connected to Almora and the necessary legal action will be taken there,” he said.

He said that the Haldwani sucidie was very unfortunate and serious, adding that immediate action was taken in the case on the CM’s directions. Action has been taken against the police found guilty in the preliminary investigation and strict action will be taken against those found guilty in the investigation in the future, he said. “The BJP government has taken strict, impartial and swift action in law and order cases which have occurred so far. Our government will pursue its zero-tolerance policy for crime in this case too,” Chamoli added.
