Police crack down on late-night bars under Operation Night Strike

Dehradun police have taken action against one bar and one restaurant for staying open after the allowed closing time on Saturday night under Operation Night Strike. The owners and staff members present there were taken to the police station, warned and challaned under the Police Act.
During the operation, police checked pubs, bars and restaurants in the city. Police also checked vehicles moving on roads at night. A total of 35 people were arrested for drunk driving. Police seized 38 vehicles for violating traffic rules. A total of 91 drivers were challaned under the Motor Vehicles Act and fines worth more than Rs 68,000 were collected. Court challans were also issued against 40 drivers.
During the late-night operation, police also questioned more than 600 people who were found roaming on roads. Their identity and documents were verified on the spot. Police challaned 75 suspicious persons and collected fines from them. In addition, 18 suspicious people were detained and brought to police stations for further questioning.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said that Operation Night Strike will continue in the future to maintain law and order, improve road safety and keep Dehradun safe.
