CS directs administration to make Matli strategic centre for rescue ops

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the State administration to make Matli as the strategic area for the relief and rescue operation in disaster affected Dharali in Uttarkashi district. The CS reviewed the relief and rescue operations from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) on Thursday. He held discussions with senior officials of the government and the army and gave directions to conduct the rescue operation at a faster pace. The CS also held deliberations with the secretary Public Works Department (PWD) and officials of Border Road Organization (BRO) regarding restoration of damaged roads as early as possible. He assured that the BRO will be provided all the resources it needs to open the roads.
The CS said that priority should be given to the elderly, sick, and women in the rescue operation. He said that restoration of road, electricity and communication services is the top priority of the government and efforts are being made on a war footing in this direction.
The CS said that all the people stranded in Gangotri, Harsil and other areas are being brought to safe places.
Bardhan directed that food, water, milk for children and other essential items should be made available to all the people stranded in Gangotri, Harsil and other areas. He said that the Chinook and MI-17 helicopters provided by the Indian Air Force will be stationed at Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi.
Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, DGP Deepam Seth, GOC Uttarakhand Sub Area Major General MPS Gill, ADG, A P Anshuman and other senior officers attended the meeting.
