Dehradun Obstetric and Gynaecology Society raises breastfeeding awareness in collaboration with district hospital

The Dehradun Obstetric and Gynaecology Society, in collaboration with Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, held an awareness event on Monday focusing on the significance of breastfeeding and its health benefits. The initiative was aimed at informing new mothers about the vital role breastfeeding plays for both them and their infants.
During the event, the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of the hospital, Dr Manu Jain, stressed on the importance of breastfeeding in the postnatal ward. He pointed out the many advantages breastfeeding offers to mothers and newborns, emphasising its contribution to promoting optimal health and well-being. The president of the Dehradun Obstetric and Gynaecology Society, Dr Rita Dhawan presented an in-depth session focused on effective latching techniques and breastfeeding tips. She offered crucial insights for new mothers, helping them confidently address the challenges associated with breastfeeding.
Additionally, senior consultant obstetrician at the hospital, Dr Meghna Aswal provided essential information regarding the advantages of breastfeeding as well as contraception, equipping mothers with the information needed to make educated choices about their reproductive health. The event also included other senior officials who highlighted the significance of breastfeeding and its various benefits, underscoring the society’s dedication to advancing optimal health outcomes for mothers and children. The organisers stated that the event served as an opportunity for sharing knowledge, educating participants, and raising awareness, while emphasising the vital role of breastfeeding in supporting the health and well-being of both mothers and newborns.
