The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will allow vendors to operate in only one row at the smart vending zone at Chhe Number Pulia to ease traffic congestion in the area. Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal on Tuesday directed officials to streamline the vending zone and remove illegal encroachments from the road. Councillor Meherban Bhandari, along with local residents, met Thapliyal on Tuesday and apprised him of the problems at the vending zone. They said that vendors were setting up stalls and kiosks beyond the designated area, resulting in two rows of fruit and vegetable vendors. This reduces road space, affects vehicular movement and frequently causes traffic jams.
Taking note of the complaint, Thapliyal said that only one row of fruit and vegetable shops would be allowed at the Chhe Number Pulia vending zone. He made it clear that encroachment on the road or in the designated vending area would not be accepted.
The mayor directed the concerned officials to properly organise the vending zone and mark the vending line, ensure smooth traffic movement and take action as per rules against those occupying the road illegally.
Thapliyal said that the MCD’s objective was to protect the interests of vendors operating in an organised manner while providing relief to the public and vehicle drivers from traffic congestion. He directed the officials to ensure effective implementation of the vending zone arrangements.
