The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal approved additional beds, an X-ray machine and accessories, phototherapy equipment, a defibrillator, generator and additional manpower for the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at the district hospital on Sunday. He also approved posting ex-servicemen as security personnel and instructed officials to remove the old tin shed used for parking and present a report for a new automated parking system.

The DM chaired the quarterly meeting of the hospital management committee at Rishiparna hall where all proposals submitted by the hospital received approval. He directed officials to ensure government hospitals provide services comparable to private hospitals so that patients do not have to seek costly private care.

The officials concerned reported progress on equipment and supplies, including lead aprons, ultrasound jelly, patient examination couches, CT scan and X-ray machines, wheelchairs, uniforms, examination tables, dressing drums, surgical instruments, adult section machines, AC units, baby radiant warmers and endoscopy cameras.

The SNCU recorded 286 admissions, 287 discharges and 21 referrals. Bansal instructed immediate submission of proposals to address any shortages identified. He directed the chief development officer Abhinav Shah to inspect the Divyang Rehabilitation Centre being established at Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital. The centre will provide certification, physiotherapy, psychological counseling, artificial limbs and assistive devices at a single location. It will also offer vocational training, skill development and support for employment and self-employment initiatives. Beneficiaries will receive wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids and other equipment.

The centre will register patients and provide evaluation-based services through a multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and counsellors. The DM said that he will personally inspect the progress of the blood bank and the rehabilitation centre soon.
