District hospital workers skip protest due to communication gap

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

A lack of communication prevented employees of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya District Hospital, who are employed under the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL), from joining the strike of UPNL workers on Tuesday. Nonetheless, the district hospital officials state that they are prepared to manage any potential disruptions should the UPNL workers decide to boycott work in the future. UPNL employees began their protests on Monday, halting work in response to longstanding demands that have yet to be addressed, and this protest continued into Tuesday. Many workers at the district hospital are employed under UPNL; however, they did not participate in the boycott.

Officials informed that workers across the State employed by UPNL began protesting at Parade Ground on Monday. However, the workers at the district hospital did not participate in the strike on Monday or Tuesday. This absence from the demonstration has been attributed to a lack of communication; the said employees at the hospital were not informed about the protest activity. Office bearers of the UPNL workers federation said that they have now received information that they will be getting a letter regarding the protest, after which the UPNL workers at the district hospital will join the protest.

In this regard, the officiating president of the UPNL federation of employees, Mahesh Bhatt said that the district hospital workers were not informed about the ongoing protest at Parade Ground. He stated that they instructed their representatives to inform all departments about the protest before it commenced. However, it seems that the district hospital workers did not receive this information, which led to their absence from the protests on Monday and Tuesday. Now that the information has been officially communicated, these workers are expected to participate in the protests soon.

District hospital PRO Pramod Panwar said that the hospital’s functioning will not be hindered if the UPNL employees at the district hospital go on strike in the future. They have made all necessary arrangements, and the hospital has enough staff to manage any absences of the protesting workers.
