The Congress staged a protest in Dehradun, alleging suppression of facts in the Ankita Bhandari murder case at the behest of the ruling BJP. Led by Dehradun mahanagar Congress committee president, Jasvinder Singh Gogi, the party activists burnt the BJP government in effigy, accusing it of destroying evidence and shielding those involved in the heinous crime.

Addressing the protesters, Gogi said that the case was not just a murder but a systematic attempt to bury the truth under political protection. He alleged that crucial evidence had been destroyed and asserted that Congress would continue its fight ‘from the streets to the legislature’ to ensure justice for Ankita.

Referring to the statements by the wife of the former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, Urmila Sanawar and allegations by former BJP district panchayat member Aarti Gaur, Gogi said that serious questions had arisen about the involvement of senior BJP leaders. “Despite the names of BJP leaders surfacing, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the director general of police have chosen to remain silent,” he alleged.

The State Congress vice-president, Suryakant Dhasmana demanded a high-level, impartial probe and strict punishment for the guilty. He accused the police of failing to disclose the identity of the alleged VIP while repeatedly referring to a VIP room to obfuscate the case.
