Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the State government is putting all efforts to make Uttarakhand a new tourism hub. He stated that the recent ropeway agreement marks a new phase in the State’s infrastructure development.
The project, covering key religious and remote areas, aims to provide safe, accessible, and environmentally balanced travel. He informed that under the agreement between the Uttarakhand government and National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), the company holds 51 per cent equity while the State holds 49 per cent. The project is expected to facilitate travel for tourists and create economic and employment opportunities for local communities, he said. Maharaj claimed that ropeway projects will extend beyond religious sites to trekking routes, adventure tourism locations and border areas. The government will implement each phase of the project with transparency, timelines and quality standards.
He further informed that the State has received approval for the Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway project of 12.9 kilometre worth Rs 24,100 crore and Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib project of 12.4 kilometre worth Rs 2,700 crore.
