The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal suspended the gun license of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) inspector who reportedly threatened his son and ex-wife with a licensed weapon during arguments.

The DM issued the suspension order on the spot and directed the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh to register a case and ensure the weapon is deposited at the police station. The case came to light during a recent public hearing at collectorate when a resident of Race Course, Vikas Ghildiyal informed the DM that his father frequently pointed the licensed firearm at him and his mother, despite their parents being legally separated.

He expressed concern that such actions could lead to a serious incident. Acting on the complaint, the DM ordered immediate suspension of the license under special authority and instructed legal proceedings against the license holder. The official order has now been issued. Bansal stated that having a license does not grant permission for misuse. He emphasised that it is the administration’s duty to take action against those who fail to act responsibly.

The suspended license, which had become a threat to immediate family members, was handled with immediate effect to prevent any untoward event, he said. The DM stated that the weapon must be submitted to the police station and legal action will follow. This action is also meant to send a clear message that misuse of licensed weapons will invite strict consequences irrespective of the position of the owner, he added.
