Dogs, encroachment and sanitation to dominate MCD board meeting

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) board meeting will be held today in which stray dogs and cattle are expected to be among the main issues. The corporation has circulated a 15-point agenda to the councillors ahead of the meeting. Councillors have also prepared their own proposals and several have already submitted them.

The officials informed that most councillors have focussed on the issue of stray dogs and cattle. Proposals include mandatory registration of dogs, sending sick and aggressive stray dogs to dog shelters and imposing fines on those who abandon pets and cattle. Encroachment, sanitation and increasing substance abuse in the city are also expected to be raised in the meeting.

Councillors will also demand removal of low hanging electricity wires from poles, installation of direction boards and nameplates in colonies and setting up of open gyms or small parks in some wards. Proposals also include patchwork and crossings on damaged internal roads after rains, repair of drains to prevent waterlogging and reconstruction of broken culverts, among others. They will also raise the issue of additional vehicles and staff to strengthen sanitation services in big wards.

A proposal also seeks action against families who received flats in Brahmpuri for rehabilitation but continued to rent out old houses near the river. Demands for security walls in areas adjacent to forests and action against landlords if tenants are found dumping waste outside may also be discussed. The agenda further includes installation of a gateway in memory of Uttarakhand movement martyr Ravindra Singh Rawat, rectification of errors in minutes of the last meeting and a demand that councillors be informed about important work plans in advance.
