PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Nainital

The traffic load increased in Nainital on the weekend as expected. The police and local administration did their bit to tackle the increased footfall by implementing a traffic diversion plan to mitigate the effects of the crowding. According to sources, the number of tourists and pilgrims travelling to Nainital, Bhimtal and Mukteshwar along with Kainchi Dham remained consistently high on the weekend. On the direction of Nainital senior superintendent of police Prahlad Narayan Meena, the police had implemented a traffic diversion plan for the weekend to tackle the increased vehicular flow. Visitors travelling from Nainital and Jyolikot towards Kainchi Dham were made to park their vehicles at the Bhawali sanatorium and use the shuttle service to reach Kainchi Dham. Those travelling from Bhimtal to Kainchi Dham were made to park their vehicles at Vikas Bhawan and use the bus shuttle service. Heavy vehicles travelling from Haldwani to the mountainous areas were sent from Bhimtal Road via Khutani and Mukteshwar to reach their destinations. Similarly, heavy vehicles plying from Almora, Ranikhet and Bageshwar towards Haldwani were sent from Kwarab to Ramgarh and then to Mukteshwar and Khutani to reach Bhimtal and then proceed towards their destinations. Some minor hiccups caused traffic congestion in some areas but these were resolved soon, officials said.
