Dug-up roads threaten public safety, DM orders inspection of 48 roads
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun
Potholes and ongoing road work have become a major concern for commuters in Dehradun after the monsoon, with several roads damaged and stretches being dug up by different departments. On Tuesday, a college bus got stuck in a pothole at a stretch where roadwork was underway.
The Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan ordered a detailed inspection of 48 major and internal roads in Dehradun. Officials have been asked to identify potholes and damaged portions and submit a report with photographs to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The inspection will cover Dehradun-Mussoorie Road, Rajpur Road, Haridwar bypass, Kanwali Road, Patelnagar, Nehru Colony, Dharampur, Raipur, Sahastradhara Road, Jakhan, Chakrata Road, Clement Town and Premnagar.
Officials have been asked to prepare a list of all potholes and damaged portions found during the inspection. After inspection, the concerned department would submit their inspection report, along with photographs to DDMA within two days.
Chauhan has directed officials to ensure necessary repairs and make the roads safer for commuters. The administration said that the inspection will help assess the actual condition of roads after the monsoon and identify areas that need repair on priority.
It will be recalled that despite repeated directions of the chief minister and Public Works minister, roads in Doon and across the State remain riddled with potholes to the detriment of public safety.
