Elderly women raise property dispute complaints at public hearing in Dehradun

A 75-year-old widow from Rishikesh in Dehradun district claimed that her daughter’s son assaulted her daily and threatened to kill her in an attempt to seize her property. She raised the complaint at a public hearing held at the Rishiparna Auditorium on Monday. The additional district magistrate KK Mishra, who was chairing the hearing, instructed the respective superintendent of police to investigate the matter and take strict action. Another elderly woman from Suddhowala, Krishna Devi, complained that her elder son harassed her, neglected her care and assaulted her to take possession of land belonging to her late younger son. The ADM directed the Vikasnagar SDM to register a case under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and ensure quick disposal. A 70-year-old woman from Ballupur also reported that her son-in-law assaulted her and attempted to occupy her house. The ADM instructed the City SP to resolve the matter. The public hearing also addressed complaints of economic distress. A resident named Pooja from Mothrowala requested financial assistance due to her husband’s critical kidney condition and responsibilities toward three daughters. Another resident, Kusum Devi from Nathanpur, sought help after the death of her husband. The ADM directed the Tehsil administration to verify both requests and submit proposals for support. In total, 134 complaints related to land disputes, illegal possession, registry issues, maintenance and social security were recorded. Residents from several areas raised issues regarding incomplete sewer line work, blocked drains and pending construction of roads and culverts. The ADM instructed the Urban Development Directorate and the Public Works Department to take prompt action to address the issues. A resident from Raipur accused a property dealer of fraud and refusal to return collected money. The ADM instructed the police circle officer to act as per procedure. Rajendranagar resident Geeta Dhawan complained that her tenant refused to vacate the house to take unlawful possession. The ADM directed officers to act under the Rent Act. The officials from Revenue, Police, Social Welfare and municipal departments were present during the hearing. The ADM stated that public hearings will continue to ensure timely resolution of community grievances through legal channels.
