The district Food Safety department is all set to launch a special campaign in Nainital ahead of the summer and tourist season. During the campaign, the quality of food items being served in hotels, restaurants and eateries will be inspected. If irregularities or adulteration of food items are found, action will be taken against the establishments concerned, said the
food safety officer Abhay Singh.

He said that a large number of tourists reach Nainital during the summer season. “Hence it is the responsibility of the department to ensure that safe and quality food items are provided to them, in particular, and the local people, in general.  “With this objective in view, a special campaign will be launched in the district and samples of food items will be taken from various hotels, restaurants and dhabas. The samples to be taken during the drive will be sent to the laboratory for quality testing. If any food item is found adulterated or lacking in quality, action will be taken against the errant food business operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act,” he added.

The food safety officer appealed to the hotel and restaurant operators to maintain cleanliness and sell those food items which are in tune with the food quality standards.
