The former Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, who had been stuck for nearly 44 hours in high altitude areas while on the Kailash- Mansarovar Yatra, was eventually rescued on the third day. After reaching Gunji, she had remained stuck between Gunji and Lamari for the last 44 hours. With the roads remaining blocked, she had to walk some distance and somehow reached Dharchula at around 9:30 PM on Monday. She thereafter left for Delhi.
As per the information received, she had fallen from a horse in Darchin, a Tibetan region under China and got injured on Saturday. The next day the Chinese soldiers brought her to Lipulekh from where the ITBP personnel rescued her and brought her to Gunji at around 1 PM the same day. She was to be airlifted from Gunji to Delhi or Dehradun, but due to bad weather on Sunday and Monday, the helicopter could not take off. It was then decided that she would be brought to Dharchula, 80 km away, by road. After being sent from Gunji in an ITBP ambulance, she got stuck near Lamari due to blocked road. She was briefly lodged in the SSB guest house in Lamari. Late in the evening, the SSB personnel helped her cross the closed road on foot and then she reached Dharchula by vehicle.
