Grappling with crime surge pressure, U’khand police launches Operation Prahar

With crimes spiralling in Dehradun, the director general of police (DGP), Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth launched Operation Prahar on Wednesday.
Under this operation, Dehradun police have arrested a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs one lakh from Rishikesh on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Raja Sahni, is a member of the Bihar-based Kallu Gang who escaped from a jail in Cuttack about six months ago. He had been absconding since then and the Odisha police had announced a reward for his arrest.
During a high-level meeting, the DGP directed all officers to stay alert round the clock. He asked them to ramp up police presence in sensitive and hotspot areas and to carry out regular checking with special focus on the early morning hours. Seth asked police to conduct verification drives for tenants, PGs and homestays to keep a check on suspicious elements. He further ordered strict action against bars and pubs operating beyond the permitted time.
Also, he directed the inspector general of police (IG), Garhwal, Rajiv Swaroop to ensure daily monitoring of the law and order situation in Dehradun and directed special task force (STF) IG and STF SSP to conduct special drive against the criminal elements in the city and curb them with heavy hand. Circle officers and station house officers have been told to stay active in the field, increase police visibility in identified hotspots and carry out strict checking at all barriers, especially during the morning hours.
