Amid growing challenges of forest fires in the Mahidanda region of the district, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) organised a one-day forest fire management training programme for the officials and employees of Tehri Dam Forest Division–II, Uttarkashi. The primary objective of the training was to enhance preparedness and response capacity of the forest personnel for prevention, early control and effective management of wildfire incidents. The expert trainers provided detailed insights into the nature of forest fires, their major causes and practical strategies for initial containment.

During the training, the participants were educated on the safe use of fire-fighting equipment, coordinated action during emergencies and operational techniques suited to difficult geographical terrain. A practical mock drill was also conducted to offer hands-on experience in operating fire beaters, blowers, water pumps and other fire-fighting tools, enabling the staff to better handle real-life emergency situations. The trainers also highlighted the factors that contribute to rapid fire spread in forest areas and stressed the importance of timely intervention and strategic planning.

A dedicated session on first aid was also organised as part of the programme. The participants received practical guidance on handling burn injuries, assisting smoke-affected individuals, managing unconsciousness, dehydration and other injuries commonly associated with forest fire incidents. Demonstrations of essential first-aid kit equipment were conducted, emphasising quick decision-making and immediate response during emergencies.

The fire officer, Narendra Singh Rawat and his team delivered detailed training on efficient fire control techniques and the correct usage of fire-fighting equipment. At the conclusion of the programme, ITBP officials presented certificates of appreciation to the officers and staff of Tehri Dam Forest Division–II. The sub-divisional forest officer said that such training programmes would prove highly beneficial in tackling forest fire incidents in future. “It is an important initiative towards strengthening forest fire management preparedness, with expectations that it will significantly enhance the Forest department’s readiness for the upcoming wild fire season,” he added.
