A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour during a dispute over not being invited to his daughter’s birthday party in Selaqui, police said. The accused, identified as Jitendra Kumar, allegedly stabbed Rajpal, 25, in the chest during a fight in the Jamanpur area on Monday night.
According to the police, Kumar and Rajpal lived in the same building as tenants in Jamanpur. Kumar had organised his daughter’s first birthday party on September 21 and had invited some of his close acquaintances. Rajpal was not invited, which allegedly led to an argument between the two.
Police said that both men had been drinking when the argument turned into a physical fight outside the building. During the fight, Rajpal allegedly slapped Kumar which infuriated Kumar, prompting him to attack Rajpal with a knife before fleeing the spot.
Rajpal was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. His family later lodged a complaint, following which an FIR was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police arrested Kumar from Mental Hospital Road in Sahaspur and recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime based on his disclosure.
