Within 24 hours of cabinet minister Rekha Arya filing a case against her husband Giridhar Lal Sahu for allegedly threatening her and domestic violence while uploading audio recordings on social media, Sahu has uploaded a video statement on social media alleging that the audio clips were generated using artificial intelligence. He also accused the minister of amassing illegal wealth amounting to Rs 210 crore.
The minister had shared a video message along with two clips on social media at 8 PM on Thursday while also having filed a police complaint. Within 24 hours of this, her husband uploaded a video message on social media. Sitting in a vehicle, he alleged that the audio clips were made using AI to “break the family”. He said, “The honourable minister is infamous for corruption, which is known in Uttarakhand, Bareilly and Delhi. She has amassed illegal property and wealth worth Rs 210 crore. I had once complained to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami about this and he had also scolded her for this,” he said.
Sahu said that everybody knows what she was before he started working hard to get her into the position she is now. The people, including those in the party and in her Someshwar constituency are also aware and affected by the corruption she has orchestrated. “She wrongly thinks that she will remain an MLA and a minister throughout her life, which is illogical. I request the government to conduct an impartial inquiry into her ill gotten gains through corruption,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the audio clip in which Sahu is purportedly talking to a woman, he says that Arya is not likely to be re-elected. He was allegedly agreeing to the other caller wanting to shoot her, while assuring her legal and financial support. Observers point out that Arya’s step to share her personal affairs on social media have put the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in a quandary. Sahu has been accused of crimes in the past and his wife had strongly defended him so far.
