While hearing a public interest litigation regarding the annual transfers of teachers, the High Court has granted time to the Education department for obtaining necessary instructions from the State government on the issue. Earlier, the additional advocate general, representing the State government, pleaded for time to seek the government instructions on the issue. Subsequently, the court directed the matter to be listed afresh on September 7.
The petition raises concerns that mid-session transfers of teachers could impact the education system in government schools in remote and inaccessible areas.
Notably, Jeevan Singh, a resident of Dabhar village in the Salt development block of Almora district, filed a petition in the High Court raising the issue of teacher transfers. The petition states that transferring teachers from remote areas to accessible areas mid-session under the guise of annual transfers could impact the education of students in these areas.
During the hearing before a division bench of Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Siddhartha Shah, the petitioner stated that a large number of teachers, posted in remote areas, have submitted options for transfer to accessible areas.
